What is Yin Yoga

    What is Yin Yoga?

     Yin Yoga is a type of yoga that helps balance ones body, mind and
spirit.

Most practices in our everyday lives, and even most other types of
asana yoga in North America, are yang based. Yin Yoga is different than
most other styles of asana yoga in the sense that it concentrates more on
the joints than the muscles. It takes long, deep asanas (postures) to help
heal the joints, which is why we hold the positions for longer periods of
time in Yin Yoga, facilitating our joints into relaxation.


Staying in poses for a longer period of time also helps relax the
mind from all of the agitation that everyday life brings us. It brings us
closer to our own minds and spirit. After finishing a yin yoga class
you are definitely blissed out. You feel as if your whole body's weight is
being carried by someone else and you are simply enjoying the lift; your
mind has been cleared of all thoughts and your spirit has been cleansed.
