Activities and Specials

Welcome

I am excited to post activities, tips and news that will enhance your general well being.

It's official we have snow on our land. If your like me all you want to do is stay indoors and cuddle up in bed with a book or movie. It's important not succumb to becoming a hermit for a whole season and no one knowing where you have been. With the help of auyrveda and myself you can help your body become strong and warm on the inside then it will help your entire being.  Setting aside time for yourself will greatly help achieve this goal, you can come see me for some spa time for yourself and I will show your body what it is missing or simply apply oil on yourself daily 10 minutes before you shower in the morning to really help your body become strong and happy.

Most people find it hard to commit to putting time aside for yourself, especially in the cold winter when you have to leave the comfort of your home. For those people I have started these packages to help motivate you to come and treat your self on a more regular basis not only when you are injured or stressed.

Get it when you want it not only when you need it

I advise anyone that has a Vata tendency to avoid staying in the cold or snow for to long and stay warm with a nice cup of Vata balancing tea from satya.

Try this camu and camu dill ghee, over kale: surely fortifying your system. Simple and fast to make.

Special's

For the new year we are having a sale of $10 off any individual treatment making it $80 OR 5% off any package. I am continuing my journey and heading back to India at the end of February  I would be overjoyed at the opportunity to have you help me master my techniques.

Thai Massage is a much more relaxing form of massage it uses no oil and is all on the floor. We use gravity and balance to help move the body around. If your someone that wants to do yoga but finds it hard to make it to the studio this is the perfect massage for you, its similar to doing a yoga class but without doing any movements yourself and letting me guide you through the "class".

What is an ayurvedic consultation

An Ayurvedic consultation is a comprehensive exam aimed at uncovering the cause of what ails you.

Ayurvedic diagnosis is made through a combination of a complete and detailed history, a pulse, tongue, and physical exam that will help to reveal underlying factors in the disease process.  Dr. Subedi diagnoses  the fundamental imbalance that may be responsible for your symptoms. Therapies may include, but are not limited to: body work and treatments ,herbs, diet, exercise, lifestyle changes, and stress prevention.

Raktamoksha (blood letting)

Raktamoksha or  therapeutic blood letting as the name suggest it is the process of removing all the impure blood in the system.

It is not the most common of the five panchakarmas, but for certain people it is necessary if they have to much impure blood it needs to be cleansed. Pure blood has a specific smell fluidity and colour and reacts in certain ways, it is essential to know what pure blood is so we know what impure blood is.

Generally not more than 10-40 ml blood is removed at a time

This practice have to be done under supervision of an ayurvedic doctor.

Virechana (purgation)

Virechana is great for reducing Pitta. It uses purgation therapy, which is to eliminate  the waste of the body through the rectum. Virechana focuses in the intestines and stomach, removing all of the excess  Pitta.

The Treatment

Virachana therapy is defined as medicated purgation therapy, which cleanses Pitta and purifies the blood by clearing toxins from the body. The treatment concentrates on the toxins that are accumulated in the liver and gallbladder. The gastro-intestinal tract is also cleansed by Virachana therapy. This treatment is usually administered for three days after Vamana treatment, however its duration may vary from case to case. In fact, Virechana can be administered directly after panchakarma, without undergoing the Vamana therapy that precedes Virechana.

Vamana

Vamana is the art of eliminating toxins in the upper-middle body through vomiting. The process is made to be as comfortable as possible, using internal oleation as a form of lubrication. It is the process by which the toxic contents of the stomach are thrown out of the body, including excess Kapha and Pitta. Kapha is located mainly in the chest, therefore vamana is a very useful method of releasing excess Kapha in the body. The main lubricant used is milk. Milk makes the process more comfortable by cooling the centre tube as well as preventing the taste of bile in your system.

Sneha Vasty

An oil enema is the insertion of a small volume of unctuous substance into the rectum. Oil enemas, otherwise known as sneha vasti are commonly used in Ayurvedic therapy as part of panchakarma.

This treatment helps to flush out all the toxins in the lower body. It is even more beneficial after receiving a week or more of prep, meaning internal and external oleation.

Vasty literally means bladder. It is named vasty because in the past, an animal bladder would be used as the pump to get the oil into the body.

Nasya

practicing Neti at home.

An effective Ayurvedic remedy for nasal cleansing is nasya. Nasya is one of the five purification methods in panchakarma therapy and is also commonly done as an Ayurvedic treatment on its own. One can get a professional nasya treatment by a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner, or do a simple nasya by themselves at home.

This Ayurvedic treatment is beneficial for all doshas, particularly Vatta and Kapha. Nasya is used for the maintenance of health as well as the prevention and treatment of ailments of the head and neck.

Marma Massage

The Marma massage is a technique created by the Kalari warriors. The Kalari warriors used all 107 marma points in the body in their fighting. These marma points are where all of the prana (life force) is located, and massaging these points will move the prana throughout the body. The points are located where the five anatomical structures meet (muscle, blood vessels, ligaments, nerves, bones and joints.) The points are also concentrated points of energy in the body - it is surprising how much energy is stored in them! Massaging them help to wake the energy up.
It is perfectly normal for emotions and thoughts to come up during the massage.

Mild Purgation

Purgation is a natural way to eliminate amma (toxins) from the tissues of the body, as well as the colon.

Treatments such as abhaganya and other oleations are applied with the purpose of loosening toxins from the cells and directing them into the colon. After 7, 14 or 21 days of external or internal oleation, your practitioner may suggest special herbs for your dosha to induce purgation.

You do not need to have panchakarma to do purgation. As a matter of fact, it is very healthy to fast and do purgation once a month, giving your system a break. Your body will be refreshed, your immune system will be alleviated and your digestive fire will be renewed.

$50 for a consultation with the medicine
$20 if you are doing a week treatment or more

Sneha Karma (Medicated ghee)

Ayurveda is all about oils. It is about understanding that the application of oils, internally and externally, nourishes the body while softening the toxins in the tissues.

When you adopt the Ayurvedic lifestyle, medicated ghee is taken everyday early in the morning to supply oleation to the gums and digestive system. Internal oleation aids in poor digestion, promotes memory, intelligence and the quantity and quality of semen. The Dosha Balance says that ghee harbors phenolic antioxidants, which boosts the immune system.

Vasty (localised treatment)

This treatment is very effective. It uses warm, medicated oil in a local area to help release toxins. It can be an extremely beneficial treatment for back pain, sciatica, slipped disc, as well as neurological and degenerative bone diseases. This treatment can be done in different locations on the body. It can be done anywhere on the back, depending on where the pain or discomfort is. It can also be done on your knees, helping to strengthen the bone and prevent stiffness or joint pain.

Our Prices:
Per treatment: $45.00
1 week of treatments: $300.00 with 5% off
2 weeks of treatments: $565.00 with 10% off
3 weeks of treatments: $800.00 with15% off

Shiro Abhyanga (Head Massage)

The head is where our eyes, ears, nose, tongue and, most importantly, our mind is. This massage is great for all of the sense organs. There are many different types of oils you can use, for different purposes. The most commonly used oil is Ksheerabala, which is a great general oil for all of the sense organs and vital spots.

The benefits of receiving this massage are:

Relaxed body and mind
Helps headaches, baldness and other head problems
Helps strengthen hair, including the colour and shine
Soothes head and sense organs
Improves blood circulation
Drains toxins
Relieves stiffness and tension from the head
Promotes sound sleep and happiness

Our Prices:
Per treatment: $45.00

Mukhabhyanga (face massage)

This treatment can be applied with a herbal oil or paste, depending on your body type and what would be most beneficial for you.

There are a number of benefits of receiving this treatment, including: relaxes the face, prevents sagging of the skin, removes facial toxins, retains overall youth and vitality, improves eyesight and sense organs, nourishes and improves skin complexion, maintains a clean and healthy face, and improves sleep. This treatment is most beneficial as an added massage before or after another treatment.

I am always amazed at how tense our faces can get throughout the day. We don't notice how affected we are by our surroundings; it eventually becomes normal to receive so much stimulation, and our faces get used to being tense. This treatment will help release that tension. Many people expect a change right after receiving treatment, but as with all Auyrvedic treatments, you will see the biggest change if you do it for an extended period of time (either 7, 14 or 21 days.)

Our Prices:
Per treatment: $45.00
1 week of treatments: $300.00 with 5% off
2 weeks of treatments: $565.00 with 10% off
3 weeks of treatments: $800.00 with15% off

Panchakarma The Science of Ayurveda

Ayurveda, which literally means the knowledge of life is the traditional healing
science of India. Viewing disease as the natural end result of living out of
harmony with our environment, Ayurveda emphasizes re-establishing harmony
and balance as the means of recreating a state of optimal health in our bodies and
minds.

While Ayurvedic methods utilize many therapies including herbs, diet,
aromatherapy, colour therapy, mantras, yoga, meditation and general lifestyle
counseling, the most profound of all treatments is that of Pancha Karma.

Bolus Bag

Bolus Bag is one of the best Ayurvedic treatments due to the fact that it is such a versatile massage. It can be useful for any of the three doshas. It is helpful for many bone problems, including arthritis, low back ache and even sciatica. It is very effective for providing good nourishment to the body.

The reason that this is such a useful massage is that there are three different variations, to suit what you need to feel balanced.

1.Podikhiza is the most commonly used. It uses herbs in the powder form inside the cotton bag.
2.Elakhizi is a type that uses medicated leaves.
3.Navara khizi which uses medicated rice.

Depending on what you need, you can change which type to use. Podikhizi and elakhiza are heating treatments so they are good for Vatta or Kapha excesses, while navara khizi is a cooling treatment and is good for Pitta. Each of these massages can be done with one or two masseurs.

Cost:

Per treatment: $110.00
1 week of treatments: $730.00 with 5% discount
2 weeks of treatments: $1385.00 with 10% discount
3 weeks of treatments: $1963.00 with 15% discount

Shirodhara

Shirodhara is the process of pouring either oil, milk or buttermilk from a bowl slightly above your forehead moving at a relaxing pace across your forehead.

According to Ayurveda, Shirodhara deeply relaxes the nervous system, lowers metabolism, integrates brain function and creates brain wave coherence and an alpha state. When the brain is under stress, cerebral circulation is compromised. As oil is poured on the forehead, the nervous system is deeply stilled. The brain waves slow down and become coherent. Once the brain is quieted, more life energy and oxygen and other nutrients flow more freely to the brain. The result: better brain function, mood stability and improved stress handling ability.

Abhyanga: Ayurvedic Massage

Abhaganya is all about oleation. Warm oil is poured over the body, and the body is stroked with specific movements to:
Soften the toxins in the tissues
Bring the toxins into the colon
Pacify the imbalanced dosha
Strengthen the body while it is in detox
Increase the softness of the skin and add luster to it, giving it a healthy glow
• Decrease Vatta
• Strengthen the Dhatus (the body`s tissues, in accordance with  the Ayurvedic texts)
• Increase strength and stamina
• Improve vision
                                                     • Promote healthy sleep

Abhaganya is a basic massage that helps nourish the body while releasing toxins. It is a very good massage to help strengthen the body. Remember that the skin is the largest organ of the body; it produces naturally occurring antidepressants, anti-cancer and anti-ageing substances, as well as hormones that enhance circulation. Ayurveda prescribes using the hands to massage the body with oil. The feeling of warm oils on the body has a very therapeutic effect, on physical and psychological levels, including the calming of the mind and nervous system.

Suggestions for when coming to an Abhaganya massage:
Come with your stomach half full
Wear comfortable and old clothes (they can be oiled)
Prepare your agenda to relax after the massage
For best results, book 7 consecutive days of massage. Ask me for your Panchakarma assessment.
Cost: $90.00 for 1 hour
We use organic and medicated oils.

I got my certificate !!

After an intensive month of studies at the Ayurveda and Panchakarma College in Kannur India, I received a certificate that allows me to practice panchakarma (purification therapies) and ayurvedic massage.

I thank all of the teachers, therapists, and friends from around the world for making this training a life changing experience and one that I hope to share with all of you.

Thai Massage

What is Thai Massage

Thai massage has been used for thousands of years. It has been used by
monks as one of the key components of medicine in Thailand.

There are many benefits to getting a Thai massage, for instance it reduces
stress and improves not only circulation, but energy and flexibility.

Think of Thai massage as doing yoga and getting a massage at the same
time, without having to put much if any effort into it.

What is panchakarma

Panchakarma is the Ayurvedic traditional form of medicine used to cleanse the body, flush out toxins and improve immunity.

Ayurveda is mainly to help rejuvenate, replenish and help prevent any further harm to the body, but it is also useful to help an unbalanced body become balanced(fixing the problems).
